Focus on… the owners of the CARRE!

After introducing you to Chef JPK and our master sommelier Claudie, I told myself that there were probably many of you who did not know us! And for good reason… we are the little hands of the shadow (LOL).

Happy owners of London for 14 years, however, we were not at all intended for the hotel industry. An International Business School course for Charlotte (EPSCI for connoisseurs) and Engineer for François (Arts & Métiers and University of Karlsruhe in Germany for other connoisseurs), our first paths led us to HR and Professional Orientation for me and Automobile Production for François.

A long trip to Australia and New Zealand was enough to open up a few chakras for us and make us want something else ... The Hotel business François had been dreaming of since we met will have won out over the corporate world and here we are ... with luck to have come across this beautiful lady from London ... oldest hotel in Saumur still in operation. 10 years of hard work have allowed us to obtain a 3rd star after having "rebuilt" the hotel as we like to say: renovation of all the rooms as well as the water, electricity and gas networks of everything the hotel. We left anyway with 13 sanibroyeurs and 10 cabin bathrooms… like on boats, but in the heart of the Pays de la Loire! 2 additional years of work allow us today to welcome you from the ground floor in the noble parts of the historic Hotel: its Winter Garden in Eiffel structure, a pretty lounge, a south-facing terrace and a seminar room among other things ... We are launching in the process The CARRE of London : jars, tea time, brunch, massage room… there is no shortage of ideas. Only Tea Time will have been set aside (to my chagrin) because it is too time-consuming during the arrival times of Hotel guests.

So we come to CARRE ... a beautiful meeting between Jean-Pierre Kausz who is launching his jars after 10 years of reflection and the Chovets who are looking for a restaurant concept in the form of jars to open the Winter Garden to Saumur residents every lunchtime… and the business is launched. We have just spent 2 beautiful years at create more than 400 dishes springing from the overflowing imagination of JPK and served with love and passion by Charlotte and the whole CARRE team. Continue to be numerous, we assure you loyalty, passion and greed!

We cannot conclude this presentation without introducing you our 3 goblins that brighten up our everyday life (the days of cloud or thunderstorm being too few to be noted): Sybille 15 years, Margaux 12 years and Como 9 years old… the photo of our happiness speaks for itself and it seems that happy people make the food even better!

news

The Carrousel of Saumur is an institution… and yet it is evolving!

Come many July 19 & 20 for its 170th edition ! Beyond the opening of the Defense Village from 10 a.m. to 19 p.m. where an exhibition of old and modern floats, entertainment, exhibitors, refreshments & brass bands are available to you, it now takes place in 2 separate times over a day. In the morning, the Morning of the Black Frame (paying show at the National Riding School) and in the afternoon, the famous equestrian and military show of the Military Schools of Saumur : outdoor show, free (subject to availability), in the city center on Place du Chardonnet completed.

The equestrian and military show: a unique moment!

In a spectacular evocation, everyone is swept up in the whirlwind of recent history and discovers that, despite the incredible revolution in military resources in the first century, the values of service and duty remain at the heart of a timeless commitment. From horse-drawn cavalry to contemporary armored vehicles, this show is an opportunity to discover 1 years of equestrian & military tradition within the city of Saumur and to evoke recent or current engagements as well as the memory of heroic acts that marked the history of the cavalry. At the end of the large chronological fresco, dynamic presentations of historic armored vehicles from the collection of the Musée des Blindés in Saumur, the contemporary means of the modern cavalry and the Army are also presented and put into context.

CarrouSSel or CarrouSel?
You know my pronounced taste for rhetoric… so I can't help this little aside… It is common to hear or read “carrouSSel” rather than “carouSel” in the streets of Saumur… So which is the good one?
It is indeed carrouSel with only one S. Carrousel is a word of Italian origin which designates a set of riders. The Larousse dictionary gives the following definition: resumption of parade where the riders evolve according to agreed figures and most often in music. The same word also designates a circular carousel of wooden horses.

Too bad for the What's New in London but at this time of peak tourist season in Saumur, I can't help but tell you about another event that we adore. And for good reason, it causes cars!
The Retro Grand Prix of Puy Notre-Dame. We roll the mechanics July 20 & 21 next… More than 160 pre-war vehicles are on display in the streets of the village : Bugatti, Fiat, Amilcar, Tricyclecars, sidecars and motorcycles ... the race is raging and the engines are roaring, a meeting for enthusiasts not to be missed!
